Salt is naturally corrosive, especially in humid kitchen environments. Over time, metal mechanisms can rust, seize, or even flake particles into your food – which is why we deliberately use a food-safe, high-strength plastic mechanism reinforced with 40% glass. This material is:

FDA-approved for food contact
Extremely durable
We completely stand by the transparency of our listing – in fact, this is clearly noted in our product description and photos. I must mention again that metal mechanism can't be used to grind salt.
